Out of the many new additions to 2.8 from 2.7 my favorites so far have to do with accommodating my laziness. Or maybe just my impatience. The best thing about WordPress I’ve always found is that the dashboard, the admin area, is extremely user friendly, though of course not fool proof ’cause nothing’s fool proof, ’cause well, fools are foolish, aren’t they. Anyway, as user friendly as WordPress has always been, it hasn’t always been admin-friendly. Too many hidden features and sometimes not enough options in how to view the admin area without this plugin or that. With that said, I’m loving the many new admin area features that make my life as WordPress blogger, designer and developer that much easier when I’m blogging, setting up and/or explaining the admin area for a client and so forth.
My two favorite new features of WordPress 2.8 are
- choosing how many posts to show in the edit post section
- the four column view of the widgets
- choosing the timezone by city
- checking for the newest version of WordPress upgrading
- being able to search and install new themes directly from the Appearance section
1 – Because I prefer drilling down through posts without having to click next over and over again.
2 – Because the less drop down menus and content above the fold I can see the better!
3 – Because I really never understood other timezone codes besides PST.
4 – Because it just makes sense!
5 – Because I no longer have to ftp a theme just to get a quick feel of how certain theme functions might work when actually installed.
